PostHeaderIcon Outdoor Furniture – Today’s Top Trends

Trends in outdoor furniture have changed drastically through the years. At one time, the only lawn furniture that you would see outdoors were the plastic or web lawn chairs or loungers. While many still use varieties of plastic for their outdoor furniture, many other materials and styles are used as well.

People love spending time outside, whether on their patio, deck, porch or just in the back yard. In a recent survey, over 90% of the American population has some kind of outdoor living space to enjoy the sunshine and socialize. There’s nothing quite as refreshing as kicking back outside soaking up the fresh air. To sit back, however, we need furniture of some sort. Your outdoor furniture can be realistically simple or elegantly stylish, as the trends in outdoor furniture have proven.

For a simple style that’s not high on fashion, but still looks nice, resin makes practical yet cheap outdoor furniture. There are usually a couple of colors to choose from. Resin patio furniture comes in a few different pieces including, tables, chairs, coffee tables and even foot rests. Not only are they cheap and practical, but they also do well in all types of weather, with the only disadvantage being occasional dullness and fading with time.

Treated cedar has always been part of any trends in outdoor furniture. Originally, cedar was used in the construction of outdoor decks, but it’s easy care, durability and great appearance soon made it perfect for lawn furniture as well. Although it was more costly than resin, plastic or webbed outdoor furniture, it had a more upscale look and lasted much longer, making it a great investment. The addition of vinyl padded cushions and backs gives the lawn chairs comfort and is easy to clean. This type of outdoor furniture has remained popular for many years.

Heavy duty plastic furniture has been used by families for years and is still extremely popular and can be found anywhere you see outdoor furniture. The designs are very fashionable with heavy duty cushions on the chairs, sturdy table tops with the appearance of glass and attractive umbrellas for protection from the sun. These range in price depending on the size of the furniture set and the construction. Most of the more expensive sets are made with heavy-duty polyethylene that’s been UV-treated.

Other trends in outdoor furniture have gone from heavy duty plastic to aluminum or stainless steel. Each of these designs is made in a variety of fashionable colors and styles. Some of the outdoor furniture sets are complete with couches, loveseats, bars and stools. Today, outdoor living is very popular and homeowners want an attractive outdoor living space to entertain their guests or kick back with the family.

Teak outdoor furniture has become a favorite of many for outdoor furniture. In addition to being very attractive, it comes in many different furniture pieces and is extremely durable. While some may feel it’s most costly, with good maintenance, it will last long enough to pay for itself.

The fall is the time of year you’ll get the best deals on outdoor furniture, but spring is when you’ll find the largest variety to choose from. Many stores deal in nothing but outdoor furniture and it’s here that you’ll find all the latest trends in outdoor furniture.

PostHeaderIcon Modernise Your Home For a Greater Sense of Comfort

There are many reasons why people will choose to remodel their home, whether it is to generate a higher property value, to make their home more comfortable or even just to stamp a bit of their personality on their property. The great thing about home improvements and decorating is that they can cost as little or as much as you can comfortably afford. Some people opt to merely rearrange furniture and either paint or put up new wallpaper to refresh their homes interior, whereas others will knock down dividing walls or build extensions.

There are lots of different parts to your home that can be updated or refreshed and the end result is that you can enjoy living in your home a little bit more as well as possibly adding to your property’s value which could come in handy if in the future you decide to move. Property value is important as your home is considered an investment and as you increase the property value the more money you’ll make off of selling your house, allowing you to buy a bigger or more impressive house.

One way to improve your home that has become increasingly popular is modernising it. Modernising can be simply updating the décor or it could be adding interesting gadgets or appliances. One of the key parts of a house to modernise is the kitchen. There are many kitchen gadgets that you can buy now that not only make your kitchen look good but can make cooking and storing food much easier. A prime example is the wine cooler, many homes have had wine racks over the years but now dedicated coolers can keep your favourite drinks at the perfect temperature.

Even appliances such as dishwashers have been relatively new appliances that are now almost as standard as washing machines and the kitchen sink! If you are interested in these or any other home improvements that you can think of that would make your home a bit more comfortable then check with your local tradesmen and builders to find out whether you can get the improvements you want at a good price.

PostHeaderIcon Bring Old World Elegance to Your Garden With a Victorian Lamp Post

The Victorian era is a wonderful era to plunder if you’re after something ‘period’ for your garden and Victorian Lampposts are a particularly good source of design ideas, and not just for architecture either.

Despite that, this article is about the source itself, the Victorian Lamp Post, and not a treatise on using that object as a source of design ideas for other projects. However, it does help underline the fact that the beauty of Victorian eclecticism is that there is something for all tastes.

If you live in a period property and are having difficulties finding garden furniture and garden lighting to complement your house, it is highly probable that the Victorians plundered the period your house was built for their own designs. Whilst the design will have been ‘doctored’ a little, the underlying fabric of the original will still be there. For instance, if you have a gothic period property (lucky you!), a Victorian gothic garden lamppost will do the job.

One downside of Victorian street furniture, and therefore, garden lampposts, was the era’s love affair with cast iron. The introduction of mass production made cast iron the favoured material for all sorts of garden and home wares, very beautiful most of them were too. However, cast iron is dreadfully heavy, incredibly expensive and, if it happens to fall on you, lethal.

Never fear, we’ve moved on a little and today’s ‘Victorian Lampposts’ are constructed from far more practical materials, such as aluminium, copper, and fibreglass. They still ‘look the part’ however.

For elegant and stylish garden lighting, you can’t really go wrong with a Victorian Lamppost.

PostHeaderIcon What is the Best Brand of Memory Foam Mattress?

Memory foam mattress is the hottest commodity in the mattress market. Nearly all suffering from back pains and stiff muscles are saving up to buy a new memory foam bed. This technology follows the visco elastic technology that NASA used for the benefit of their astronauts. When they launch into space, the gravitational force pushes them back to their seats causing them to experience pressures sores and body pains.

Visco elastic memory foam helps in redistributing weight. This kind of foam conforms to body temperature. As a result, it adheres to the contours of the body. This technology has been proven beneficial in improving sleep conditions. Before, people are only used to buying innerspring beds. These mattresses do not give proper support to the crucial areas of the body such as the spine, back, neck and lumbar area. In addition to that, these mattresses are prone to dents and depressions causing more body pains.

But what really is the best brand of memory foam mattress? According to Tempur pedic, they are the best brand. That is because they are the first ones who launched this technology in the bedding scene. Their mattresses usually have 5-9 pounds of memory foam density. At first use, you may feel uncomfortable with the mattress because these are firmer-a lot firmer than innerspring beds.

But there are new mattress brands such as Angel Beds that challenge Tempur pedic. These mattresses are similar to the firmness and comfort level of the Tempur pedic but they cost comparatively cheaper. Let us admit it, even though we want to find out how comfortable memory foam beds are, we usually cannot because of the hefty price. Angel Beds are giving us cheaper choices.

According to sleep experts, high density memory beds do not really guarantee unparalleled comfort as you sleep. In fact, there are people who cannot find comfort in sleeping on 5-pounds of density memory bed. That is because the mattress is too stiff for lower back comfort.

If you have lower back pain, you are better off choosing a mattress with lesser density. 4 pounds is good enough to supply cushiony comfort to lower back and a good support to the upper back. To top that off, it is cheaper compared to mattresses with higher density.

High density level is not the basis for the best brand of memory foam mattress. Choose this mattress based on how comfortable it is for you so you are not spending a month’s salary’s worth on a piece of uncomfortable stack of foams.

PostHeaderIcon Kitchen Design – No Need to Do It Alone

You can’t opt out of the process altogether, though, because you need to decide what equipment you want in the kitchen, the type of units, fitted or freestanding, the flooring, lighting … the list goes on.

The size and shape of your kitchen will, to some extent, dictate the equipment you have and where you put it. Remember not to overfill small kitchens – these should have a simple, uncluttered look unless you want permanent claustrophobia.

First decide where to site your sink, drainer and dishwasher – remembering to retain the position of existing service points if possible, since re-wiring and re-plumbing can cut a swathe through your budget. Bear in mind, though, that track lighting above the worksurfaces is a real boon – alterations to existing wiring to incorporate this shouldn’t break the bank.

Remember, too, the ‘magic triangle’ of sink, cooker and fridge. Some (male) designers pour scorn on this formula but these three pieces of equipemnt should always be kept close together for maximum efficiency, with your food preparation area nearby.

If your kitchen is large enough to dine in, work out where to site the table or breakfast bar and stools/chairs.

Then decide what other equipment you want and how much space you will need for it. Remember that labour-saving items like food mixers and juicers need to be permanently at the ready – if you have to get them out of a cupboard every time you want to use them, you won’t! Likewise, plan how much storage space you will need for food, cutlery and crockery, cooking utensils, cleaning equipment, etc – a family of five will need much more space than a couple, for instance.

Your choice of units depends on personal taste, budget and lifestyle. Hard-wearing, easy-clean surfaces like wood, veneers or laminates are a boon for busy people and families with young children. Higher-maintenance glass and stainless steel are for those with time to care for them – or a daily help!

Unless you have money to burn you should choose cabinets you’ll be happy to live with for a number of years – you can always ring the changes economically with a coat of paint and/or new handles.

When it comes to decoration, remember to use – or specify, if you’re in the fortunate position of having someone to do the work for you – grout that is resistant to heat, dirt and water. Similarly, choose special ‘kitchen and bathroom’ paint and wallpaper – the ranges are expanding all the time. However, a kitchen is a very ‘busy’ place so it makes sense to keep the walls and furnishings fairly neutral to avoid visual overload.

When your kitchen is installed, think logically about where to put everything. Keep items you use regularly in the most accessible cupboards. Those you use infrequently can go in higher cupboards while heavier items should be tucked away in cupboards underneath the worktops.

Fitting a new kitchen involves quite a bit of upheaval and it’s not something you do very often. It makes sense, therefore, to get it right and careful planning is the key. Your preferences, allied with your supplier’s expert guidance, should result in a room that meets all your needs for a kitchen that is efficient, aesthetically pleasing and a pleasure to use.
